Design of Customized Face-Protective Masks for Sport-Related Injuries by Using Reverse Engineering and Computer-Aided Design Tools
摘要
A method for designing customized face-protective masks (FPMs) for sport-related injuries is described. This method comprises three steps: first, obtain a digital replica of the athlete’s face by using a 3D scanner; second, create the external surface of the FPM in a reverse engineering software program; and third, develop the design of the FPM in a computer-aided design software program. The developed designs can be directly manufactured using an additive manufacturing machine. When designing and manufacturing the FPM, the type of injury the athlete is recovering from and the regulation of the sport he/she practices should be taken into account.
