Looking at two novels by Moroccan author Abdellah Taïa, Celui qui est digne d’être aimé (2017) and La vie lente (2019), this chapter discusses the paradoxical position that gay immigrants, embodied in the protagonists Ahmed and Mounir, experience in France. Having escaped the patriarchal structures of Morocco, they enter a new social hierarchy in Paris in which they are allowed to live their sexuality openly but are also oppressed by new forms of power. The author analyzes the forms of re-writing alternative images of masculinity and the re-identification as a homosexual man of Muslim origin in Taïa’s adoptive homeland of France.
