摘要

Food is an essential aspect that contributes to the identity and richness of a community’s cultural heritage. Traditional foods and foodways are deeply embedded in the cultural and social fabric of a community, and play a critical role in its social, religious, and economic life. Festivities are an important context in which traditional foods are prepared, consumed, and shared, strengthening social bonds, reinforcing cultural identity, and celebrating diversity. The objective of this chapter is to explore the relationship between traditional foods and festivity, and how it is linked to socio-cultural aspects. This chapter defines traditional foods and foodways and their importance to cultural heritage. It then examines the role of traditional foods in festivity, highlighting the social and cultural significance of traditional foods in festivals and the symbolic meanings attached to them. The chapter explores the potential of traditional foods and foodways to promote cultural diversity and social cohesion. It discusses how traditional food can be used as a tool for intercultural dialogue, promoting a better understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, and fostering social harmony. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting traditional food cultures, not only for their cultural and historical significance but also for their potential to contribute to sustainable development and food security.
