Telehealth and the Delivery of PE
摘要
Telemental health has emerged as one of the most significant innovations in the field of mental health treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Telemental health (i.e., telehealth) is the delivery of mental healthcare using synchronous, real-time video-teleconferencing technology. Numerous studies support the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of telehealth treatment for PTSD (including prolonged exposure [PE] and cognitive processing therapy [CPT]) in both clinic and in-home settings (Acierno et al., 2017; Morland et al., 2020a; Yuen et al., 2015). While few clinicians offered mental health care via telehealth before the COVID-19 public health emergency, telehealth has since been widely adopted and is recognized as an acceptable, efficient, and effective modality for delivering mental health care. Telehealth is now often considered a standard care option for a variety of mental health conditions, including PTSD.
