Grossing of Breast Specimens

Breast specimens are straightforward when grossing if the proper methodology is applied to all specimens. Apart from different modalities of biopsies, the surgery could be directed for a single or multiple lesion and status post-chemotherapy cases. Mostly, the lesions are small and not grossly visible on mastectomy/excision specimens; hence, biopsy site clips (see Fig. 3.1) help identify the lesion. Using an X-ray machine is the superlative way to find the incredibly small biopsy site clips in breast specimens, but not every gross room has access to these machines.
