A Case Study on Controlling Real Losses in Large-Scale Water Distribution Systems

摘要

Real losses in water distribution systems stand for the water that is physically lost. In this study, results of implementing intervention tools to reduce real losses in a large-scale water distribution system are presented. Findings proved that pressure management and active leakage control studies are effective tools to reduce real losses. On the other hand, pipeline and asset management are crucial for sustainable management of water losses, as around 76% of pipe failures in 2021 occurred in service connection pipes. Water loss management strategies should be based on a continuous process as water distribution systems are dynamic systems. The rate of water losses in 2021 is around 43% of the system input volume. After comprehensive work to reduce real losses, a significant amount of real losses was reduced.
