New Device Technologies for Treating and Monitoring Acute Decompensated and Chronic Heart Failure Patients
摘要
The capabilities of microelectronics, battery technologies, and innovations in patient monitoring continue to lead to the exciting potential to apply such to patients in the early and late stages of heart failure. Further, enhanced capabilities for telemedicine and the utilizations of artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to monitor therapeutic outcomes in these complex patients. Here we provide a high-level overview of some of the innovations that are being employed and developed to treat these patients in both acute and chronic settings. For example, one area of intense study has been the application of bioimpedance sensing for assessing physiological parameters in such patients. Many other technologies are being developed for the heart failure patient, including: (1) those that induce structural modifications; (2) improved contractility; (3) those that affect the lymphatic system; (4) those that aim to optimization of cardiorespiratory system; and (5) many others. The future in this realm of patient care will continue to develop at an accelerated rate and hence the applications of these technologies with ultimately improve patient’s quality of life.
