Structural Link of the Habitability Crisis to the Capitalist Mode of Social Reproduction

The crisis of habitability is empirically correlated with the history of capitalism, but the immanent connection between the crisis and capitalism cannot be proven on a purely empirical basis. The development of the categories and laws of Marx's labor theory of value is necessary for a scientific demonstration of such a connection. This chapter provides the minimum essential tools given to us in Marx's Capital to prove that the crisis of habitability is a necessity of the reproduction of capital that is driven by its internal contradictions so that the crisis cannot be overcome within the limits of the capitalist mode of production. The causal relationship between the accumulation of capital at a decreasing rate of profit, the capitalist systemic crisis, and the crisis of habitability is analyzed throughout the chapter.
