Introduction

This chapter presents the general problem of the planetary crisis of habitability as it is commonly perceived in contemporary societysociety. The overall geopolitical scenario in which this crisis is currently unfolding is characterized and the implications for the crisis are highlighted. The main goals of the book in relation to the problem of the crisis of habitability are defined, and how these goals are addressed in the various chapters of the book are briefly outlined.
