A Comprehensive Review on Friction Materials for Automotive Applications
摘要
The friction materials are very important parts in automotive systems especially in braking and transmission applications where they must perform without fail under various conditions. These materials need unique properties such as a high friction coefficient, wear resistance, thermal stability and mechanical strength. This article provides a comprehensive review of friction material used in the automotive industry by discussing its composition, properties, manufacturing processes and performance evaluation. Friction materials typically consist of fibers, fillers, binders and friction modifiers mixed to satisfy specific performance requirements. The manufacture process involves precise steps that ensure consistency and quality; these include mixing, forming, curing and finishing. Performance evaluation covers friction, wear, thermal and mechanical tests to guarantee reliability as well as durability.
