A Short Review on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for Assessment of Damage in Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites
摘要
Current technology is trending towards replacement of traditional structural steel components with smart composite materials due to its many beneficial properties. Yet, one of their biggest problems is damage brought on by various impact occurrences. Under the surfaces, there are damages occurring that are invisible to the naked human eyesight. Slowly accumulating damage eventually results in catastrophic collapse. Understanding the damage and failure mechanisms of modern composite materials is crucial for producing affordable, dependable, and lasting design components. Therefore, it is important to recognize the factors influencing the impact response. This study focuses on various impact kinds, impact parameters, impact-related damages, and composite material assessment utilizing various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods. A comparison between different NDT methods with their cost involved has been made for better understanding.
