摘要

Life satisfaction among university students is a global concern that continues to draw attention. It defines how human beings assess the worth of their lives as well as how they discern the choices they make, the judgment of well-being, which can be estimated in terms of self-perceived capability to manage one’s mood and daily life occurrences. This chapter aims to analyze life satisfaction among first-year students. The chapter reviews the meaning of life satisfaction, measurement of life satisfaction, bottom-up and top-down theories, the obstacles to better life satisfaction and ways of enhancing it. The study uses secondary data by utilizing Google Scholar, Google, and Science Direct, among others. Study findings indicate that personal and educational factors influence the life satisfaction of students. Additional findings indicate the existence of a close relationship between life satisfaction and self-esteem. Finally, the study recommends that institutions need to create awareness and to provide a conducive environment which fosters positive life satisfaction.
