Forensic Discussion and Formulation: Ecological-Intersectional Perspectives in Victimology and Criminology to Understand Feminicide

Both Forensic Discussion (theoretical foundation on which a forensic assessment is based) and Forensic Formulation (contextualization of theory in a single case study through the examination of hypothesis) constitute relevant cornerstones not only in the investigative processes within Forensic Psychology but also within the Forensic Social Sciences (e.g., Criminology and Victimology) since they allow systematizing the findings, basing them, comparing, and explaining them through the existing valid scientific theory toward all those characteristics and qualities that are exhibited in a particular case. This chapter is intended to present current and robust scientific contributions in Criminology and Victimology to describe, make visible, and explain complex psychosocial realities immersed in “sui generis” phenomena such as Feminicide and its multiple settings ranging from the individual, relational, and community to the social-structural levels. This ecological-intersectional perspective makes it possible to identify the intra-group differences relevant to account for and make visible the diverse experiences and discourses present in the contexts of lethal violence against women. The chapter stresses the importance of the use of ideographic perspectives, which will allow the identification of the qualities, patterns, and contexts in which feminicidal violence is produced.
