Crime Scene and Feminicide: Crime Scene Investigation and Processing Standards

This chapter thoroughly and in detail illustrates the crime scene investigation and processing to be carried out in contexts of Feminicide. Given that crime scene processing is one of the initial activities of a whole process of legal and forensic investigation, the quality under which the specialist carries out the interventions will determine the ability to explain characteristics of time, mode, and place in the future. The ability to observe, interpret, and report such observations professionally is the essential first step in forensic investigations with due diligence. Additionally, this chapter aims to answer questions such as: “How to process a Feminicide crime scene?”, “What means a crime scene investigation and processing with a gender perspective?”, “What evidence should be collected?”, illustrating relevant elements of forensic investigation at the crime scene. Subsequently, elementary mechanisms such as securing and documenting the scene are addressed, followed by standards of practice for securing, recording, and collecting physical evidence and the subsequent procedures with the body in situ.
