Wi-Fi Networks that Can Be Identified by Software

Designing networks and resource management should be considerably easier using the concept of “software defined networking” (SDN). In contrast to academic research and development, the industry community is paying more attention to SDN since network operators stand to gain significantly from these features. Although wireless equipment manufacturers are increasingly participating in SDN-related activities, there is still a lack of a comprehensive and clear understanding of the opportunities presented by SDN in the most common networking scenarios involving wireless infrastructure-less communications, as well as the ways in which SDN concepts should be adjusted to meet the needs of wireless and mobile communications. This work fills this gap by examining the potential benefits of SDN in wireless infrastructure-less networking systems, with a focus on wireless personal area networks. (WPAN). In addition, some design guidelines are given along with a proposed approach (called SDWN) for such cases. Recent advancements in information and communication technology, such as cloud computing, data centers, social and mobile networks, and others, have raised new expectations for the internet of the future, including high bandwidth, dynamic management settings, and accessibility from anywhere at any time. One popular network approach is to manually configure network devices, which is a laborious and error-prone process. It does, however, hinder the most effective and efficient use of the physical network infrastructure. In this regard, one of the most promising emerging internet technologies is SDN (Software Defined Networks). The ability to program for the development of network applications and the separation of the control and data planes are the two main features that distinguish SDN from traditional network architecture.
