Analysis of Wind Reduction Effect of Wind Load on High-Rise Building Envelope

The current design wind pressure calculation for envelope structures in our country's load code does not account for wind direction effects, resulting in a somewhat conservative approach. This paper examines wind speed and direction distribution characteristics using wind speed and direction data. The extreme wind speed for each direction was analyzed using classical extreme value theory and the transcendency threshold theory. The findings indicate that the three-parameter Weibull distribution fits better than the Gumbel distribution for most wind directions. Additionally, the POT method, when based on small sample sizes, tends to underestimate the wind speed in certain urban areas affected by typhoons. A wind speed reduction factor, which considers wind direction correlation and frequency, is calculated. Using wind tunnel test data from high-rise buildings, wind load reduction factors that account for building type and orientation under different wind conditions are also determined.
