Detection of Eye Staring for Early Warning of Digital Eye Strain in VDT Users: An Analysis Using Haar Cascade Algorithm
摘要
Dry eyes syndrome is a common eye-related problem that occurs due to a deficiency in tear production. There are many contributory factors for this disease, such as ocular surface and tear film problems, age and gender, surrounding environment, and computer vision syndrome (CVS). In this study, an application for the detection of eye staring in different ambient brightness conditions is proposed. The developed system operates by detecting blinks and calculating their rate and frequency and is capable of notifying Visual Display Terminal (VDT) users about unhealthy eyes status, where appropriate. The current study experimental results revealed that the developed application provides a high accuracy rate of 98.60% in the normal ambient brightness for both types of reading and performing code activities.
