Assessing Contexts of Inventions: An Explorative Study in South Korea
摘要
This study focuses on the context of technological invention in South Korea (SK), aiming specifically to reveal the processes leading up to invention as well as the factors influencing the probability of inventing. The study achieves this by exploring theories, concepts, and ideas possibly relating to SK—originally based on other countries and samples—to reveal contextual factors that may be prominent there. Yet, the international literature largely revealed information gaps and limited research concerned with SK, leading to the purpose of this study. In it, a qualitative research approach was used. Anonymous semi-structured interviews with Korean inventors were used to collect data (true verbatim) related to technological invention. This study’s empirical findings add to existing models and literature by demonstrating that many results reported in the literature, based on other countries, can indeed be related to SK, indicating commonalities in the inventive phenomenon with the potential to support future applied research.
