Gender Gap in Patents: The Case of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil
摘要
This study investigates the participation of women scientists in patents granted to the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) to uncover gender disparities in innovation. Using a descriptive methodology and analysing 217 patents granted until July 2023, the results reveal a gender disparity, with women representing only 37.39% of patent contributors. Particularly in all-female teams, women's involvement is scarce at 7.16%, highlighting lasting challenges. The study emphasises the prevalence of men in teams, defending gender-inclusive measures in research and innovation. The findings hold significance for institutions seeking to enhance gender balance in innovation, offering a nuanced perspective on challenges and opportunities specific to academic patenting.
