Nanomedicine: Bridging Nanoscience Innovations with Healthcare Solutions
摘要
Advancements in nanoscience research and its application in biotechnology has brought an unparallel impact towards development of next generation therapeutic, diagnostic and device evolution for difficult to treat diseases. The new branch of nanoscience which has wider application in healthcare is coined as nanomedicine. Nanomedicine has improved the targeted drug delivery, reduced side-effects, better biocompatibility, enhanced drug solubility and improved therapeutic effects. During the last decades, nanomedicine research has gained significant momentum which has been evident from substantial number of FDA approved nano-formulations and a large number of nanomedicines in different stages of clinical trials. However as compared with other traditional class of drugs, and looking at the fact that the first nanomedicine was approved in early 90s by US-FDA, the progress in the field of nanomedicine is much slower. It highlights the fact that clinical translation of nanomedicine still encounters numerous obstacles. Despite challenges, the emergence of nanomedicine has been promising and future looks bright for this interdisciplinary science.
