Theranostics: Integrated Diagnostics and Therapy Using Nanomedicine

Theranostics, an emerging field at the intersection of diagnostics and therapy, offers a paradigm shift in healthcare by enabling personalized and precise treatment strategies. This chapter explores the integration of diagnostics and therapy facilitated by nanomedicine, a revolutionary approach with immense promise for addressing complex diseases. Nanomedicine leverages nanotechnology to engineer multifunctional nanoparticles capable of simultaneous diagnosis and treatment, advancing disease management. This chapter focuses on the principles, applications, and advancements in theranostics using nanomedicine, including the design and synthesis of nanoparticles with tailored properties for specific diagnostic modalities such as imaging and biomarker detection. Moreover, these nanoparticles are engineered to deliver therapeutic payloads directly to diseased tissues, minimizing systemic side effects and enhancing efficacy.
