摘要

The network of agents operating on the Balkan Peninsula represented the most intricate and enduring component of Hôtel Lambert's foreign activities. While this is particularly true of the 1840s and early 1850s, the foundations of this network were built on a long-standing interest in the region. This chapter analyses the case of František Zach and his role as an agent in Belgrade, focusing specifically on how his perception of the Austrian Empire, in terms of both his plans and his activities.
