Conclusion

The previous chapters have proposed an analytical method of combining the analysis of seminal texts and corpus materials in order to reveal the sources of the national identity narrative and trace its functioning in US culture. The analysis shows how the narrative of American national identity provides a series of key referential markers that have been used in public discourse throughout the entire history of the American nation so as to give credence to diverse positions concerning issues of national significance.
