Education in Morocco: Ten Recommendations for Moving Forward
摘要
The chapter draws on the main lines of inquiry that have been discussed throughout the previous chapters to conclude with a number of implications, critiques and recommendations for improving the scope and quality of education in Morocco in terms of planning, policy, implementation, curriculum, syllabus, medium of instruction, teaching and learning. It argues that redressing the crises within education stipulates systematic evaluations, serious reforms and political will(s) that centre the core issues and root causes, not the symptoms. It also maintains that there is a need to disrupt the politicization of educational issues for the sake of amassing public endorsement by attending to people’s emotions and hardships. For example, the overfocus on English as a magical solution has been justified by the deteriorating ties between Morocco and France rather than a genuine and well-planned vision for the development of education. This chapter offers ten recommendations that can contribute to the design and implementation of reforms, policies and practices that support education’s active role in the country’s progress at the cultural, political and socioeconomic levels.
