A Path Analysis Model of Responsible Usage of AI and Its Effectiveness on the Quality of Education: Perspective from India

Education has substantially become digital in the last two decades and now AI-enabled learning is marking another significant shift in the academic approaches. While AI-empowered tools like voice assistants, grammar correction, and automated content creation offer unprecedented benefits, they also raise a serious concern about influencing the user’s capacity to use their critical mental faculties. Critical pedagogy has a significant role in empowering teachers and students towards responsible usage of new-age technology. It strengthens teachers’ capacity to ensure that students are not simply passive consumers of information but are actively engaged in countering the information generated by the ‘techno-driven-info-generative platforms’. This study is an attempt to assess the ethical implications of the usage of AIDE systems in education. In addition, the study also envisages developing and validating a framework for integrating critical pedagogy into it. A random sampling technique was used, and data was collected during the month of August 2023 in an attempt to explore the ethical dimensions of students learning in higher education. The study envisaged identifying the interplay of critical pedagogy in promoting student agency and integrating critical pedagogy principles by recommending strategies for enhancing pedagogical values.
