Conclusion

With the prevalence of trauma in the criminal justice populations we work in, there is a need to approach the participants served from a universal lens of being trauma-informed. The therapeutic relationship cannot be underestimated by all those who encounter treatment court participants. An overriding principle of trauma-informed care focused on the six pillars that incorporate safety, trustworthiness and transparency, peer support, collaboration and mutuality, empowerment, voice and choice, and cultural, historical, and gender issues. To be able to incorporate the pillars of care into practical domains that can be carried out in the courtroom help reform a system connected to therapeutic jurisprudence.
