Doing Research in Geography Education: An Overview of Trends, Paradigms, Methods, and Dissemination

  • Péter Bagoly-Simó

摘要

Geography education looks back on a rich and diverse research tradition shaped both by international trends and diverse linguistic and cultural traditions. This chapter aims to introduce those interested in doing research in geography education to its main frameworks. Following a brief retrospection of (international) trends, the focus shifts to the main paradigms shaping research in the field. The subsequent section revisits the habitual steps of the research process. Reviewing previous research constitutes the starting point. A section on conceptualization leads to the operationalization process, offering some examples of research methods and sampling traditions. Three subsequent sections address the challenge to present research findings—written and orally—to various target audiences ranging from the academic through professionals to the broad public. A brief outlook concludes the chapter.
