The Future of Geography Education in Chile
摘要
Geography education in Chile is uneven in terms of its thematic focus and country-level contributions. Research demonstrates the necessity for a country-wide prioritization of geography education themes that build on existing scholarship and adapts to emerging needs and trends. This chapter analyzes diverse aspects of the school system and geography education in Chile. It is divided into three sections. The first section presents geographic education background in the country. It gives a general view of the current situation of geography education and topics, such as the situation of geography teaching in higher education, teacher training, and the situation of geography in the curriculum of elementary and secondary education. The second section deals with trends in geography education. The third section presents some challenges of geography education in Chile. The consideration of this discipline as a curricular field that deals with current social-environmental challenges, the training of good geography teachers, and the ability to spark the interest of the youth in spatial perspective problems will constitute the base for the reinforcement and consolidation of geographic Chilean education.
