Futures for Geography Education

  • David Lambert

摘要

This chapter is, to an extent, an exercise in speculation. It opens up thinking about the type of educational scenarios that geography teachers may offer young people in the face of the epochal challenges facing human societies—and indeed life on Earth. This requires fresh thinking about the purposes and potentials of education and the possible contributions of geography. The chapter argues that geography educationists need to “rediscover” the subject’s power to educate. Using the “three futures” heuristic comparing fundamentally different curriculum scenarios, we renew focus on teachers’ “knowledge work” through Latour’s concept of terrestrial eco-social politics.
