In this chapter, we analyze recent legislative changes in the Netherlands, USA and Germany in which brain development played a role. In the Netherlands, the possibility of applying juvenile criminal law was extended up to and including the age of 22. The legislative initiative, which began in 2012 and came into force in 2014, drew extraordinary links between neurobiology and responsible behavior. In the USA, the maximum possible sentences for underage offenders were restricted by the Supreme Court. And in Germany, adults were allowed to grow and possess cannabis, but still with various age-related restrictions.

摘要

In this chapter, we analyze recent legislative changes in the Netherlands, USA and Germany in which brain development played a role. In the Netherlands, the possibility of applying juvenile criminal law was extended up to and including the age of 22. In the USA, the maximum possible sentences for underage offenders were restricted by the Supreme Court. And in Germany, adults were allowed to grow and possess cannabis, but still with various age-related restrictions.
