Squamous Cell Carcinoma
摘要
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is an invasive epithelial malignancy that arises from the prickle–squamous cell layers of the epidermis. It is capable of metastasis to regional lymph nodes and is potentially lethal. The majority of patients with SCC are 60 years of age or older. The main risk factors include ultraviolet light and actinic damage. Because of its variable clinical presentation, biopsy and histological examination are required for an accurate diagnosis. The main treatment modality is surgical excision, with microscopic monitoring of the margins or Mohs’ microsurgery. The treatment of choice for secondary orbital invasion is orbital exenteration. Keratoacanthoma is considered to be a variant of SCC, that may regress.
