WebWriter: Authoring and Remixing Explorables

Interactive, multimodal explorables that are openly accessible on the web present a promising avenue for education. However, creating such explorables demands proficiency in web development, which excludes a significant number of educators and students from engaging in the authoring and remixing process. While some tools exist to mitigate this entry barrier, they each have issues in terms of fulfilling requirements of educators. In this demo, we present WebWriter, a prototype to author and remix explorables which aims to address the gap between educators’ requirements and existing solutions. The core functionality of the prototype is discussed in detail, both from the authoring and the development perspective. A use case of how the tool can be utilized in practice is given and future research opportunities are discussed.
