摘要

Recent advances in metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS) led to an improved safety profile that made MBS as safe as hip replacement and cholecystectomy. These advances include utilizing minimally invasive techniques, fellowship training in MBS, establishing centers of excellence for MBS and MBS registries such as the Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBS). In addition, enhanced recovery protocols including opioid-sparing pain control, and limiting the use of drains, and urinary and gastric catheters/tubes have led to patients spending shorter time in the hospital after MBS. In this chapter, we will discuss the. Ambulatory MBS and shed some light on the best candidates, safety and outcomes based on the published literature.
