The Role of the Advanced Practice Provider, Social Worker, and Physical Therapist in the Management of the Bariatric Patient
摘要
An integrated health approach is the key to success for a bariatric patient. A typical bariatric surgery center involves care from advanced providers including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, as well as physical therapists, in addition to other health care professionals. Advances in the roles of these professionals include the more widespread use of telehealth and remote platforms for patient care. Additionally, the role of self-monitoring tools and devices at home for patients continues to grow in this field. While the roles of these professionals have been previously established for bariatric surgery, the modalities of care continue to evolve. As more patients undergo bariatric surgery, long-term considerations such as weight regain also require a long-term approach for these professionals to impact patient care and outcomes. All members of the bariatric team play a crucial role in the success of bariatric surgery and should be utilized to their full scope of practice within the team.
