摘要

This chapter discusses all facets of the childhood obesity epidemic, from epidemiology to etiology to various treatment options including bariatric surgery. Health impacts of obesity during the pediatric years span cardiometabolic, endocrine, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and socioemotional domains, with high healthcare usage and costs. Therapies range from behavioral to surgical, with access and outcomes disparities. Prevention is vital, requiring tailored interventions and early action to mitigate long-term risks. Resolving the crisis mandates equitable access and addressing social determinants of health.
