With more bariatric surgeries performed and growth in medical tourism, bariatric emergencies generally present in the emergency department under the care of non-bariatric surgeons. This brief chapter on bariatric emergencies may help refresh the general surgeon on common bariatric emergencies and management. Early communication with a bariatric surgeon and quick evaluation and management of the patient can prevent catastrophic outcomes after bariatric surgery.
