Robotic Duodenal Switch and SADI-S: Technical Aspects

Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) and single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) are two of the most effective weight loss procedures with regards to weight loss and resolution of co-morbid conditions. However, due to the technical skills needed to perform the operations laparoscopically many bariatric surgeons avoid these options. Employing the robotic platform for these operations eases the technical demands on the surgeon allowing bariatric surgeons to more readily offer this procedure to their patients. This chapter outlines the technical aspects involved when using the robot to perform these operations.
