Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass: Indications and Technique

Since its inception, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass has been a mainstay in the treatment of severe obesity and the associated metabolic syndrome and is the gold standard of weight loss operations, though both the technique of the procedure and peri-operative management have undergone revision and improvement over time. This chapter serves to guide the surgeon through the technical elements for the performance of a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Elements specific to a robotic-assisted Roux-en-Y gastric bypass are discussed at the end of the chapter.
