Partial nephrectomy is one of the standards of care management options for small renal masses and is endorsed by the American Urological Association for patients with cT1a and select patients with cT1b/T2 lesions. Traditionally, this procedure was completed through an open incision. With the advent of laparoscopy, partial nephrectomy was feasible but remained a difficult and challenging procedure. However, over the last two decades, we have seen an increase in the adoption of robotic-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy due to the improved surgical ergonomics and range of movement, wristed instrumentation, and three-dimensional, high-definition visualization provided by the da Vinci® Surgical System (Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA), thus largely supplanting conventional laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. While there are many techniques that have been described, we herein discuss our technique for multi-port robotic transperitoneal partial nephrectomy.
