Advanced Robotic Reconstruction in Pediatric Urology
摘要
The robotic platform has emerged as a particularly feasible instrument in the field of pediatric urologic reconstructive surgery. This provides the advantages of a stable magnified 3-D view, tremor filtering, and motion scaling to achieve complex reconstructive tasks in patients of varying sizes through a minimally invasive approach. The improved dexterity provides a tremendous advantage for operations requiring extensive suturing compared to traditional laparoscopy. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery has been embraced for routine pediatric urologic reconstructive and extirpative surgeries including pyeloplasty, ureteral reimplantation, and heminephrectomy. As proficiency with the platform improves, robot-assisted surgery becomes an increasingly viable alternative to open or laparoscopic surgery for more advanced tasks including ureterocalicostomy, appendicovesicostomy, megaureter repair, and many other emerging indications.
