Attachment and Its Relationship with Pornography’s Addiction
摘要
The consumption of pornography is a common activity among young people today, and is increasing in those countries where access to the Internet is not restricted. There is evidence that many people consider their own consumption of pornography as a problem because they refer consequences when consuming pornography, such as interpersonal conflicts, work difficulties, mental health problems, feelings of guilt and shame, social isolation, family problems or even legal problems, and feelings of loneliness. Despite the increase in the prevalence of this type of consumption, there is great controversy in the scientific world about considering addiction to pornography as a psychiatric entity. This type of addiction is included as one of the symptoms of hypersexual disorder (THS). It is important to explore and understand the emotional and cognitive processes that influence the psychological process of addiction to pornography. Currently, we find different models and theories that try to explain the nature of sexual behaviors and thoughts out of control. Recently, a new research line is focusing on the origin based on the relationship between pornography’s addiction and attachment style. Some authors hypothesize that the development of this addiction has its origins in the patient’s interpersonal difficulties with their main attachment figures. It is likely that people with this diagnosis perform this type of behavior to alleviate certain unresolved conflicts that have to do with early affection.
