Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Urban Settlement Space: Challenges of Sustainable Approach for Post-war Regions

The role of local communities is very important in the restoration and the preservation of cultural heritage in the urban settlements. The ongoing high-scale Russian-Ukrainian war has resulted in the destruction of numerous cultural sites, including buildings, monuments, and artifacts. Here it considers the cultural heritage potential, geographical distribution of specific types of heritage by regions of Ukraine, the level of damage in the war conditions, the role of national and regional institutions in heritage management, and the place of local communities in restoration of heritage in urban settlements. It shows case studies from selected cities and towns of restoration strategy in war conditions, the place of non-governmental institutions, and relations with a prospective plan of restoration of regions of Ukraine.
