This paper discusses the restoration of intangible cultural heritage after disasters and its interaction with local communities. We will focus on two case studies as elements of intangible cultural heritage in Fukushima Prefecture after the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in 2011. In this region, local communities were severely damaged by the radioactive disaster, and the restoration of intangible cultural heritage faced great difficulties. This study revealed that when local communities undergo changes due to disasters, their intangible cultural heritage is also forced to change.
