The paper analyses the evolution of the legal protection of intangible cultural heritage from a comparative perspective and verifies the impact produced by the UNESCO Convention on intangible cultural heritage in 9 countries (Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Jordan, Cyprus, Spain, Burkina Faso, Korea and Japan) to try to demonstrate how the protection of ICH is necessary for sustainable development.
