Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease: A Multidisciplinary Perspective

摘要

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a significant issue in modern healthcare. As the global population ages, the effects of AD are anticipated to increase significantly. There is now a greater need than ever to gain a deeper understanding of AD and improve our capacity to efficiently handle it. This requires a broad call to action, covering research, clinical methods, public policies, and community involvement. A multidisciplinary approach could facilitate addressed all disease aspects in patient care. Social workers, occupational therapists, financial advisers, and healthcare experts work together to offer comprehensive treatmentsTreatment that addresses not just patients' medical needs but also their emotional, social, and practical issues. This chapter discusses AD from the perspective of five major scientific fields, namely formal sciences, physical and chemical sciences, biological sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. In formal scienceswe discuss how formal logic and mathematics are utilized in AD research to model disease progression, analyze clinical trial data, and develop statistical methods for early detection. Physical and chemical sciences perspective includes studies on protein misfolding as a hallmark of AD, quantum mechanics and neural function using techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and microscopy to understand the structure and behavior of proteins involved. Biological sciences focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of AD, and investigate the role of genes, proteins, and neurotransmittersNeurotransmitter in AD development and progression. Medical science translates biological knowledge into clinical practice, develop diagnostic tools, therapeutic interventions, and management strategies to improve patient outcomes. Social sciences display the societal impact of AD, exploring AD influence on individuals, families, and healthcare systems, and advocating for policies and support structures. Understanding AD through different perspectives of different disciplines promotes an integrated strategy to combat this complicated disease.
