Art “Connecting to Our Worlds: An Art Gallery Assignment”
摘要
In this chapter, I share some of my assumptions teaching International Studies theory and reflect on the challenges of teaching and learning Feminist International Relations theory, in particular. The focus of the chapter is on an art gallery assignment I created and have used in a variety of courses over the last fifteen years. Through the art gallery assignment students are required to think metaphorically and visually and they must engage in meta-analysis as a means by which to translate complex ideas. In addition, I believe that the art gallery assignment challenges positivist and mainstream assumptions about what constitutes knowledge and learning, encourages the students to tell their own stories, and helps the students connect themselves and their worlds to the theory they read in class.
