This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the development of high-speed railways in China and Russia, comparing their approaches, achievements and problems. China’s rapid progress and innovation in high-speed rail technology reflect its commitment to modernizing transport infrastructure and maintaining global leadership in this field. On the contrary, Russia is facing various problems that have slowed down progress in the development of high-speed railways. The comparison highlights the transformative nature of high-speed rail, offering faster travel times, economic growth opportunities and a sustainable alternative to air and road transport. In addition, the article discusses Russia’s plans to cooperate with domestic companies in the development of high-speed trains and the potential reduction of travel time between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Using the smoothed planning method, a prediction was made for the trend of increasing passenger traffic in the Russian Federation, which will have a positive impact on the development of the Russian Railways. Overall, the analysis highlights the unique paths chosen by China and Russia in implementing high-speed rail systems and highlights the valuable lessons Russia can learn from China’s experience in this transformative sector.
