This chapter reviews the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections of the hip. It summarizes key literature pertaining to diagnostic tests and discusses in detail commonly available imaging, laboratory, histological, and microbial studies. The chapter reviews consensus recommendations and provides the pragmatic use of these tests in a high volume arthroplasty center. Finally, the chapter will demonstrate the diagnostic dilemmas using a case-based example, as well as provide insights into the tips, tricks, and pragmatic use of these tests in a high volume arthroplasty center.
