Thin Catheter Administration of Surfactant in Preterm Neonates

Stabilizing a preterm infant via CPAP in the delivery room and then administering surfactant less invasively via a thin catheter (LISA/MIST) is increasingly used and has been shown to reduce mechanical ventilation rates within the first days of life in preterm infants. This chapter summarizes current evidence and an example of best practice in preparing for and conducting LISA/MIST. Furthermore, key factors for improved success and outcomes associated with implementation of LISA/MIST are discussed.
