Effect of PCM Tubes on the Thermal and Dynamic Behavior of a Solar Dyer
摘要
This paper aims to estimate the impact of the storage unit on the dynamic and thermic behavior of an indirect solar dryer. The energy storage system is in the form of copper tubes filled with pure Gallium as phase change material. These tubes have been placed to store the energy of the hot air coming from the solar air heater before passing through the trays. Therefore, this study contributes to the progress of the drying process by enabling its continuous operation throughout the entire day, rather than being limited to sunlight hours. This system is studied numerically using the CFD method, with meteorological data of Eastern Morocco specifically Oujda city, to make this study sound more realistic. The findings pointed out that the use of PCM tubes inside the drying chamber makes the drying process continuous. The temperature difference at night reaches 6° compared to the other case without storage. Concerning the dynamic effect, PCM tubes improve the air uniformity along the trays by eliminating the vortices generated in the other case of no-storage.
